This is a comparison of me and an athlete doing high jump. I have wrote down a blurb underneath to explain what I am doing, what the athlete is doing and what are the similarities between us. I have attributed the image and circled our similarities on our photos.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Magic Box Poem
The love that a mother has for her child,
A precious diamond ring that is longing for me in the store of ‘Pascoes’
The first snowflakes in Winter that are white as clear crystal
I will put into the box …
A slice of fresh watermelon that was once grown in a country farm,
A white bed that is soft as the marshmallow clouds in the baby blue sky,
A pinch of the rough sand from Kabul
I will put into the box …
The greet of the elegant birds that chirp in the bright sunrise,
The heart-touching lyrics of my favourite song,
And the jumps of a gentle dolphin in the seas of Hawaii
My box is fashioned with happiness, loyalty and contentment with a diamond lock on the lid to keep all my valuable memories together.
Its hinges are made out of rare and special gold.
I shall share my valuable memories in my box to the next and the next and the next generation, for they are worth sharing.
This is my Magic Box version of Kin Nisbett's original Magic Box poem. We had to paint a picture in our audience's mind by using special language features.

Warriors Visit - DTR Sponsorship
Today, Ryan Hoffman and John Palavi from the 'Warriors Team' visited our school today to discuss the importance of Hydration, Belonging and Sleep. Alice, who sponsored for the VIP tickets to the Warriors game a few weeks ago, also came to visit The whole school took part in fun activities and even prizes (Bags and drink bottles) were given out to students who answered their questions correctly. We learn't about some very valuable lessons. For example, the amount of time we are mean't to sleep each night, why it is important to be hydrated and when we should be drinking water. I could connect to what the warriors were saying, because their words were related to the 4 walls of Hauora; Taha Tinana, Taha Whanau, Taha Hinengaro and Taha Wairua. Everyone had a very fun time and enjoyed the time with the Warriors.

Run, Jump Throw
This week for Run, Jump, Throw we have been learning about Long Jump. We were shown the right way to do long jump by Andy. We did fun activities to test what we learn't about Long Jump. For example, an activity we had where we were into groups of 4 and were checking to see who can jump the furtherest. In my group, Mia jumped the longest. At the end, Zahn came first. I really enjoyed our session and can't wait until next time!

Current Events
This is Google Drawing about a very important event that has happened recently. Nikki, a New Zealand Olympian helped Abbey who tripped over in a 5,000 meter race in Rio. This event shows what true sportsmanship is and inspires me to help others when they need the help.

Provocation on Olympic Venue
We have been learning to look at both sides of a provocation and state our own opinion on whether host countries should spend so much money on building the Olympic venues. My Google Drawing shows 2 pictures of the Official Stadium of Beijing in 2008, and a picture of it 4 years later in 2012. I have added a paragraph about my opinion and another paragraph about my partner's opinion. We both had different opinions and used supporting information to backup our opinions. I have also attributed both of my images.

Violet Waldron/Ancient Olympics
This is a Google Drawing that I have created based on Violet Walrond and the Ancient Olympics. Violet Walrond was the youngest and the first ever female to compete in the Olympics. The Ancient Olympics are very different to the Modern Olympics. I have explained some of the differences as well as added an image of Violet Walrond with some of the other competitors.

Hover Bike Poster
This is a poster that I have created advertising a 'Hover Bike.' My task was to use my language features/techniques to hook in my audience if they were to buy a hoverbike.

Winter Learning Journey
In the two weeks of Holiday, our school has been completing tasks based on the Olympics. This is called the 'Winter Learning Journey'. A huge thank you to Rachel Williamson from Woolf Fisher as she set up the tasks. The tasks were on going for a week. Points were counted for the amount of blogposts made as well as points for commenting. The task that I enjoyed the most, is the task where I created my own logo of the Olympic 2016 in Rio.
