Run, Jump, Throw

Starting our day off today was an energetic and entertaining morning at 'Run, Jump Throw'. Our instructor, Andy has been demonstrating many useful skills for the past few weeks.  Our main focus this week was Shot Put and Discus. We were taught some catchphrases to help us remember the correct way of Shot Put and Discus.

Firstly, we all tried a shot at Shot Put. Each pair had a shot put each. We had been told many times to: grip the ball with dirty fingers next to your neck with clean palms. Chin, knee, toe all in a row. Low to high and watch it fly!

We then moved on to Discus. Everyone had a turn to feel the discuses at first. We had to grip the discus like it was on a shelf. We had to always hold it on our third knuckle too. As well as swinging the discus high, clapping on to it so it doesn't fall out.

So far, 'Run, Jump, Throw' has been a very exciting Kiwi sport at PBS. I am sure everyone is enjoying all the fun activities with Andy. Hopefully, we will have 'Run, Jump, Throw' again next week!

My Speech

Imagine living every day in paranoia. Knowing that everywhere you go, everything you do, you are being judged by everyone around you. Imagine, walking into a shop and having someone watch your every movement thinking you’re going to reveal a bomb. Just because I have something covering my hair, doesn’t mean I want to cause you harm. Imagine being mocked, bullied, hurt just because you don’t look like everyone around you. Have you ever wondered how it feels to think no one likes you, how it feels to sit alone. How it feels to walk a day in my shoes.

Salam, Hello, Malo lelei, Talofa Lava, Meegalaba. We have all these different greetings but yet, in the eyes of others, some of us are still different. Many choose to single out the differences, when we should be focusing on the similarities. Sadly, Racial discrimination is a worldwide problem because some people are brought up to believe their race, their beliefs, their culture and their language is superior to others.
First of all let me make this clear. We are all created equally. Under our black skin, under our white skin, under our yellow skin, there is always red blood. So why, do we look on the surface instead of looking deep inside.

Racial discrimination involves any act where people are treated unfairly because of their race colour, religion or beliefs. Last week, a 16 year old schoolgirl in England was knocked unconscious as she walked to school, simply for celebrating the fact Allah is her god. Why did her attacker choose her? Well, most likely because of the black scarf around her head.

It’s time to move forward. It’s time to embrace our differences and its time racism became extinct as a word. Everyone has the right to be true to themselves. Don’t you agree?

Should schools provide breakfast for all NZ Children?

Should schools provide breakfast for all NZ Children?

We grow up in a generation where poverty overtakes many New Zealand families. Parents and children face everyday hardships that impact their daily lifestyle, physical well-being, and mental and emotional well-being. One of the hardships that parents face are being able to provide breakfast for their children. Approximately 15% of children go to school without having breakfast. That is almost about 55,000 children every single day!

Students who aren’t provided with breakfast are most likely to be switched off from their learning in class. Kids won’t get the nutrition they need to stay focused and energised, so this would cause massive drops in their education, since they won’t be able to concentrate on what’s being taught in their classroom. Their learning environment would be tampered with, and would lead to massive impacts in their grades -  jeopardizing their education!

It is scientifically proven that breakfast helps you maintain a more healthy body and mind. All a kid needs is a bowl of weetbix to keep them energised and enthusiastic in the morning! It helps them become motivated to participate in sports. Imagine how unhealthy kids would feel if they skipped breakfast every. If children don’t get the proper nutrition in their system, it would cause massive drops in their health and well-being.

Students that aren’t provided with breakfast become emotionally unstable. They experience a whirlwind of emotions: Such as jealousy, hatred, rage, and sadness. Children feel hatred towards other classmates and friends whose parents are able to give them their morning nutrition while they aren’t provided with it under certain circumstances. They envy those who are energised and full, while they are hungry, tired, dysfunctional, and lacking in energy. This envy leads to negative emotions, and a change in their social and active life.

Breakfast determines whether children will be active and properly engaged in their learning for the morning block. That is why our final opinion and perspective on this debate is for students that attend school to be provided with breakfast. This would lead to an enthusiastic, energized, and focused student! Breakfast needs to be provided! Don’t you agree?

Vincent Van Gogh Artwork

This is a piece of artwork that I have completed with Miss Donaldson. We were inspired by a famous artist named Vincent Van Gogh. Miss Donaldson taught us many valuable things about art that will help us throughout the future! We worked on this for many weeks but we were all proud at the end.
