2016 Reflection

This year we have been in tons of activities and loads of fun.  This collage reflects on the whole year of what LS2 have been doing like for example Rhythm Interactive, Soccer, Quick writes and many more. I enjoyed the multi-modal learning that we have completed this year this particular task was based on pigeons.   To make it more interesting and more of a challenge we decided not to use a collage maker and instead make our pictures layered and with different shapes.  This year has been really great I had a great journey throughout this year I can't wait to see what's in store for us next year.

Tahuna Torea Reflection

Mia & Sajiha - Tahuna Torea Reflection

Yesterday afternoon we went to Tahuna Torea Reserve. This related to our topic flight because it was linked to the learning that we have done about the Bar-tailed Godwit or also known as the Kuaka. We explored the wetlands we observed the land. We were seeking the Bar-tailed Godwit but we sadly didn't see the bird. I also saw many different birds as well such as the Pukeko and the Grey Heron Bird. I had fun at exploring the reserve I hope to visit next time.

Rockets At Tamaki College - Collage

This is a collage that I have created based on photos we took at our Rocket session at Tamaki College. The photos show us creating 'Straw rockets' and also normal paper rockets.

Multimodel Reading

This morning, we were focusing on the Kuaka Bird. We were put into groups and filled out a page where we added information about 'ways humans travel overseas' today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. This made us make connections and focus on our prior knowledge. (Our own knowledge) It also challenged us since we were not allowed to use the internet to search up our questions or use books. The screenshot above shows the 'Kuaka Migration' site that we used. The site has many activities based on the bird that you can try out. Click here to access the site.

Dear Term Four Me

Dear Term Four Sajiha,
By the time, you read this, you will have had a successful year 8 journey and enrolled in a new school for your start to college. Did your tests for Selwyn go well? Are you now officially on level 6 for writing? You must have checked out the writing rubric from 2015 when writing your tests. Have you shown excellent leadership by helping younger students with their work or even in the playground? Hopefully, you have received all 8 of your CARE Awards. In order to achieve both your silver and gold, you must have prepared your appointments and showed up on time.
Good luck for 2017 in College!

See you in three months time.
Sincerely, Term One Sajiha

We had a full day of art on Wedneday where we focused on 'Hundertwasser' artworks. To help us learn about Hundertwasser, we created the google doc above where we included his birth, nationality, education, three pictures of his artworks, his connection to New Zealand and the date of his death. We focused on one of his artworks and used some of his features in our own artworks. We practiced our shading with oil pastels and learned the proper way of using cool and warm colors to make our colors effective and eye-catchuing.

PBS Athletics Day

Today we had our Panmure Bridge School Athletics Day. We were lucky to have a few Tamaki College Students to help us with playing the activities. Each year group was split into three different teams, where we learn't to collaborate and encourage each other. The year 8's first started at a game called 'Capture the flag,' we then moved onto, Sponge relay, Long Jump, Shot putt and Hoola Hoop Throw. I think my team worked very well together, since we won many games. The weather was not the best, since we all got wet but we did enjoy our day very much.

Kuaka/Godwit Storyboard That

Inline image 1

Click on the link above to access a 'Storyboard that' created by Zeba and I based on the connection between the Godwit/Kuaka Bird and Maori People. We researched many different sites to help us gather information for our main story prompt. We found the story about their connection and retold the story in our own words. It was really fun to recreate their story in our own way.

Paper Planes Challenge

This week for Maths, we have been working collaboratively on a maths challenge where we were challenging ourselves to create and design a paper plane that will fly the furtherest. Last week, Mrs. Anderson set up a silent challenge and in our groups of 5-6, we trialled many different designs of paper planes. Today, we created the ultimate and final design for our team. We flew all the planes off the balcony, on the top field, in the playground and in LS2. Then today, we accurately measured our distances in class. We had different designs so each plane landed in different places. I think everyone in LS2 enjoyed this activity and at the same time, learned a lot since we had to think about our designs, how we found them and collaborated with our team at the same time.

Paper Planes Collage

This week for Maths, LS2 has been learning to design and make a paper plane that will fly the furtherest. Mrs. Anderson set up a silent challenge, where we did not speak and learn't to communicate through our actions. We were put into groups of 5-6 and trialled many different designs to make the ultimate and final design. We did this by searching the internet for step to step designs and watching Youtube Videos that showed us how to make the paper plane as well. After each person in our group had made a paper plane, we decided to fly them off the balcony, in class, on the field and on the playground. We had different designs so each plane landed in different places. I think everyone in LS2 enjoyed this activity and at the same time, learned a lot since we had to think about our designs, how we found them and collaborated with our team at the same time.
