Science @ Tamaki College

In the past two weeks in Tamaki College, we have been having Science. Our aim in this project is to design a rover that can scramble at least 3 meters on the floor. This is a collaborative Google Presentation created by Linda and I, that showcases our time there with pictures and a summary.

Working With My Critical Friend

This morning, we had a chance to edit our writing sample with a critical friend from a different class. I worked collaboratively with Mahdia to complete this task. For this week, we decided to work on Mahdia's sample as her's needed the most editing. I had the writing rubric opened up on my device while she had her writing sample on her device. We added comments on her sample to show what she has achieved and her next learning steps. We were also recorded answering 2 questions about our writing topic. I think with answering the questions, we both had full answers and added a lot of detail to our answers. We are looking forward to the next writing session with both classes.

Science Project Reflection

Our first ever 'Science' lesson was held today at Tamaki College. Both year 7 and 8 classes were involved in this. We had to stay at the college from 8:30am (Time when our technology classes start) until 12:30pm. (The time when our project finished) We were split into 2 different classes with different teachers. The teacher I was with was 'Mr. Malhotre'. As part of our project, we were handed out booklets to give us an idea of what we were planning on to create. Our task in 4 weeks is to make a robot that is powered by rubber bands to scramble 3 meters across the floor. Mr. Malhotre also discussed with us the '4 Strands of Science' by showing us a google presentation. I am looking forward to the next 3 weeks at Tamaki College to complete our project!

The Lever

This is a poster about a simple machine; lever. I have worked collaboratively with Fine, Zeba and Yvette to create this. We have explained how a lever works and also created a picture.

The Wedge

This a poster that I collaborated on with some classmates. We created this poster, because it displays information about one of the most simple machines made.

Screws

This is the digital learning object my group and I created revolving around screws. This ties in with our science topic 'simple machinery'. We're learning about the Six Simple Machinery. My group and I watched a video that gives you information about screws and created a google presentation recording down what we learnt in our own words. We added an extra slide with fun facts!

The Inclined Plane

This is the google poster my group and I created based around the inclined plane. This ties in with the work we will be doing in science at our technology. This prepares us for the work we will be doing and builds our knowledge on simple machinery. Our task was to write in 25 words what an inclined plane is and how it works

Jaffa Roll Experiment

This is the fotor I created based around the Jaffa Roll experiment we had done on Tuesday. We needed to create something out of cardboard, sellotape, scissors, and glue that would make the Jaffa we were given go as far as possible. Everyone had done something ramp like since it was the most effective choice. Our Jaffa had gone 816 centimetres. The longest had gone over 900 centimetres. We were happy with our score since compared to others was really good. Everyone had fun and had creative designs that turned cardboard into something cool.

6 Thinking Hats DLO

This is a google presentation I filled out based around an article about a girl being injured by a firework. This revolves around our guyfawkes tasks. We were given the six thinking hats to record down our perspective on different aspects of this article. Have a read of the article and see what your opinion is on these 6 thinking hats.

Fireworks Safety

My group and I (Yvette, Linda, Silivia) created this google presentation to aware the children in the junior section about the dangers of fireworks but in an easy way to understand for their age. My group presented this presentation to the kids in room 4 who are around the age of 5. The main message we gave was to be safe. That revolves around everything we had talked about. If you have a younger sibling, it would be wise to show them this presentation if you have not already shared the dangers and/or/ are doing fireworks tonight. Happy guyfawkes!

Webb Ellis Cup

This is a simple DLO based on the 'Webb Ellis Cup'. I have worked by myself to create this for my RWC task. There are a lot of factual information and I have included a photo of the cup as well.

DARE - GoAnimate

This is a Go Animate showing you the importance and consequences of drugs and alcohol. I have worked with Zeba collaboratively to create this. It is also a short reflection of our DARE program.
