Webonauts Internet Academy

I have completed the Webonauts Internet Academy. It is a online game/journey about space and being safe online. It teaches me to never give my password to anyone and keep it private. There were many missions in this journey. You can decorate your room and avatar.  I recommend this game to digital learners because it helps them to be safe and it is also very fun. Solar System Quiz

Sumdog Competition Results

I have come 4th in the Sumdog Competition in Auckland. Sumdog is a free learning game. The competition had started yesterday and I had to answer 1000 questions in a week. My score was 912 out of 1000. I am very proud of my score even though I had a much higher score in the last competition. In each Sumdog competition, each student that takes part in the competition gets a reward chosen from Sumdog. In this competition, each student gets free clothes for their character. I reccomend Sumdog to every student because it has helped me a lot with my maths and I'm sure it'll help you too! Here are a few clothes that I have won: 

Whales Stranded In Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand

On Monday Afternoon on 2nd of November 2014, 60 Pilot Whales were stranded in Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand. 

Frogfishes

Frogfishes

Frogfishes are a type of anglerfishes. They are small, short and stocky. They live in the sea and have many special features. Here is a short information report all about Frogfishes.  

What they look like?

Believe it or not, frogfishes can camouflage. Frogfishes camouflage to keep safe from predators. They are a bit like chameleons and can change into nearly any color. These colors can be pink, white, black, orange, yellow and brown.

Habitats

Frogfishes live in the sea. They are found world wide but are mostly bunched in different oceans mostly Australia.

Hunting

Frogfishes eat crustaceans. They eat each other and other fishes. When a frogfish spots his/her prey, it follows it with it’s eyes. If the prey catches, it quickly camouflages. When the Frogfish thinks it’s time, it then slowly moves towards it, preparing for attack. It runs up to it and swallows it into it’s mouth. The attack can be 6 milliseconds long.

Other Facts

• Frogfishes are masters of disguise
• They can disguise
• Frogfishes have a fin which is used to attract their prey. If their fin is eaten or damaged it can grow back
• They are carnivores
• Their mouth can expand 12 times larger than it’s actual size
• Because frogfish lack to swim,  they use their fins to walk, or even to gallop across the seafloor

Longest Loom Band Attempt

Students at Maungawhau School are making meter long sections of loom band in an attempt to set a New Zealand Record for the longest band. The school principle has asked every student to try to create a section around 10m long. The sections will then be stitched together to make a lengthy band of around 6km long! The school is raising funds throughout the record attempt to go towards a World Vision scheme aimed at establishing child-friendly spaces and play programs in India and Africa.

Recount With A Twist

“Hooray!” I screamed in excitement. My friends and I had agreed to go shopping in the weekend. It was not just any kind of shopping. We we’re going to our favourite places.

The huge day had come. We all decided to meet at the first ever shop we knew. It may sound like a normal shopping day but it wasn’t, it was like shopping around the whole entire world!

Once we all met up, we just couldn’t stop chatting. I thought we were going to spend the whole day screaming and shouting at each other, talking about all the crazy things that had happened during the week.

An hour had already passed. I showed my friends the time, we had taken so long and were wasting valuable shopping time. They couldn’t believe the time that we had spent standing and shouting at eachother. I had to force them to stop talking and get on with our shopping. It may have taken long and I may have lost my voice but it was worth it, we were finally moving.

My friends and I had finally arrived at our destination. We were sprinting to our favourite shop until..

A fat rich man stepped in front of me. I could tell he was rich by the type of clothes he was wearing.

‘Umm excuse me?” I said softly at the huge man.

“Congratulations!” the man said.

`I had no idea what was going on. My friends had run off to the shops not caring about anything.

“Why are you congratulating me?” I asked the rich man.

“Because you get to buy anything you want and I’ll paying for everything!”. The man said proudly.

I didn’t even care about who he was or how I could buy anything I wanted, all I cared about was SHOPPING! I sprinted as fast as I could to find my friends and told them everything. We then rushed to the rich man and bought nearly anything we saw.

“How much money do you even have?” I questioned him.

“Don’t you know, I’m made out of money!” The rich man screamed at my face.

Half of our time had gone. We may have got everything we ever wanted but something just didn’t feel right.

“Do you know what the problem is?” I asked the man and my friends. I knew my friends were just feeling the same as me as I knew this by the look on their tired faces. We all sat for a while and tried to think about what was wrong.

“Oh! I know what’s wrong!” My friend shouted at us. As soon as my friend said that, we all sat up.

“Now that we have all we want, it just doesn't feel right buying everything with someone elses money.” We couldn’t agree more with each other. There was only one thing we could do to fix the problem. We gave everything we brought back to the rich man. Tears flowed down our faces and the man was also sad, he told us that we could keep one thing each. I kept just one of my favourite dresses. It felt like that was all I ever needed!.

That was the best day ever!

Grammar Blast: Super Challenge Quiz

I have completed a "Super Challenge Quiz" on Grammar Blast. My final score is 95 points. I am really proud of getting this score in my first time. I also think that I have got 95 points because I really focused on my Grammar and Vocabulary. Hopefully I can get 100 points next time. I can do this by doing Grammar quizes daily!

There once was an ant and a grasshopper. They both knew that winter was coming! The ant would prepare food for him and his family everyday, while the grasshopper would be careless and just play around. When Winter came by, the ant had everything prepared while the grasshopper was starving and very weak. The moral of this story is that: Be prepared because you will need it!
