Run, Jump, Throw

This term, our Kiwi sport is 'Run, Jump, Throw'. We had our second session with Andy today. Andy has taught us the basic rules of sprinting, which are:

  • Standing Tall
  • Looking Straight Ahead
  • Running in a straight line
  • Light Feet
  • High Knees
  • Cheek to cheek with arm movements
Andy also mentioned to us to never look at the starter as this slows us down.
We also learn't to step one meter away from the start line. I am looking forward to next weeks session.

  • Arms bent at the same time with legs
  • Legs bent
We also learn't that there are two types of high jump. Frosbury or Scissors. We all had a try to do the scissor kicks only. I am looking forward to learning a new discipline next week.

Kiwisport: Basketball

Today, we had our second session at Basketball. Our coaches are Coach Mark and Coach Millie. We first started off with revising all the skills that we had learn't last week. Skills such as pivoting, dribbling, cupping the balls and stance were first used to help us warm up. We ended off our few last minutes with a relay; Girls vs Girls, and Boys vs Boys. My team had won our game. Overall, I really have enjoyed the 2 weeks at Basketball. I am looking forward to what we are learning next week.

Run, Jump, Throw

Starting our day off today was an energetic and entertaining morning at 'Run, Jump Throw'. Our instructor, Andy has been demonstrating many useful skills for the past few weeks.  Our main focus this week was Shot Put and Discus. We were taught some catchphrases to help us remember the correct way of Shot Put and Discus.

Firstly, we all tried a shot at Shot Put. Each pair had a shot put each. We had been told many times to: grip the ball with dirty fingers next to your neck with clean palms. Chin, knee, toe all in a row. Low to high and watch it fly!

We then moved on to Discus. Everyone had a turn to feel the discuses at first. We had to grip the discus like it was on a shelf. We had to always hold it on our third knuckle too. As well as swinging the discus high, clapping on to it so it doesn't fall out.

So far, 'Run, Jump, Throw' has been a very exciting Kiwi sport at PBS. I am sure everyone is enjoying all the fun activities with Andy. Hopefully, we will have 'Run, Jump, Throw' again next week!

Run, Jump, Throw

This term, our Kiwi sport is 'Run, Jump, Throw'. We had our first session with Andy today. Run Jump Throw is mainly based on running. Andy taught us about the basic rules of sprinting, which are:

  • Standing Tall
  • Looking Straight Ahead
  • Light Feet
  • High Knees
  • Cheek to cheek with arm movements
We also had a relay and a race jumping over hurdles  between each other. Andy mentioned to us to never look at the starter as this slows us down. Mrs. Anderson also filmed us to compare us. I am looking forward to our next session next week!
