This morning, we were focusing on the Kuaka Bird. We were put into groups and filled out a page where we added information about 'ways humans travel overseas' today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. This made us make connections and focus on our prior knowledge. (Our own knowledge) It also challenged us since we were not allowed to use the internet to search up our questions or use books. The screenshot above shows the 'Kuaka Migration' site that we used. The site has many activities based on the bird that you can try out. Click here to access the site.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Read Theory
This term, we have been reading passages on a site called 'Read Theory' everyday for 20 minutes. On your first passage, you are tested on how well you understand your text. You are then placed on a level of your results. You move onto a new level every time you answer all of your questions correctly. Each question has four options from you to choose from. We practice looking back at the text to find information that links to our questions. So far, I think this site is really helpful, because I have improved from my pretest.

Winter Learning Journey
In the two weeks of Holiday, our school has been completing tasks based on the Olympics. This is called the 'Winter Learning Journey'. A huge thank you to Rachel Williamson from Woolf Fisher as she set up the tasks. The tasks were on going for a week. Points were counted for the amount of blogposts made as well as points for commenting. The task that I enjoyed the most, is the task where I created my own logo of the Olympic 2016 in Rio.

Doppleganger Predictions
I have read this novel called "Doppleganger." There were tasks and activities that were followed after finishing book. I have completed a prediction task below:
By looking at the cover page and title, I think this story is about a boy who turns himself into a doppelganger. I also think the story is set in a specific place as there is a picture of buildings on the cover page.
Changes I would make:
I think that the illustration on the cover page is very effective because of the fact that the illustrator added buildings of Turkey on the silhouette of Connor and Niko.
But I think the cover page would be better if Niko’s and Connor’s face showed so we can get an idea of how similar they look.

Bias
In my Reading Group, we have been focusing on a subject called Bias. Bias means one sided, in other words a tendency that is believed that some ideas are better than others.
Only one side of the argument is explained. The other side is not explained which is considered to be unfair. My Reading Group first looked into a example of how judges judged musical talents by the gender of people.
Based on the audition, people noticed that the judges preferred males rather than females. This is when they decided to have blind auditions. In this way, the judges were not able to see the gender of the person performing.
