Paper Planes Challenge

This week for Maths, we have been working collaboratively on a maths challenge where we were challenging ourselves to create and design a paper plane that will fly the furtherest. Last week, Mrs. Anderson set up a silent challenge and in our groups of 5-6, we trialled many different designs of paper planes. Today, we created the ultimate and final design for our team. We flew all the planes off the balcony, on the top field, in the playground and in LS2. Then today, we accurately measured our distances in class. We had different designs so each plane landed in different places. I think everyone in LS2 enjoyed this activity and at the same time, learned a lot since we had to think about our designs, how we found them and collaborated with our team at the same time.

This week for Maths, LS2 has been learning to design and make a paper plane that will fly the furtherest. Mrs. Anderson set up a silent challenge, where we did not speak and learn't to communicate through our actions. We were put into groups of 5-6 and trialled many different designs to make the ultimate and final design. We did this by searching the internet for step to step designs and watching Youtube Videos that showed us how to make the paper plane as well. After each person in our group had made a paper plane, we decided to fly them off the balcony, in class, on the field and on the playground. We had different designs so each plane landed in different places. I think everyone in LS2 enjoyed this activity and at the same time, learned a lot since we had to think about our designs, how we found them and collaborated with our team at the same time. 

Maths - Word Problems

This week, we have been practicing maths problems to get us warmed up for our tests next week. The maths problems we practiced were word problem questions. Since most of our maths equations are word problems and we needed to learn how to identify the numbers in the word problems. We answered about 7 questions and I got 6 out of 7 correct. Next week, I hope to get all of the questions correct.

This is a screenshot of Quizzez. This is an educational game where anyone can participate. Our whole class has a couple of games of quizzez as a warm up, this makes everyone exciting and everybody looks forward to maths time. Today when we played, Zeba and I decided to partner up and we came first place. We played four games of quizzez, three games of times tables and 1 of basic facts.

Quizizz

This week, we have been playing an online quiz on a site called Quizizz. This helps us practice, our multiplication and basic facts. We worked with a partner and answered all the equations together. I worked with Zeba and we found the quiz a bit easy. We came 1st out of the class in 2 games and played  4 games altogether. 

Maths

For Maths today, my group played a game called 'Hit the Button.' This helped us answer our division facts quickly. We then were learning to solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of decimals. Miss Naicker set up 10 word problems for my group to work out individually. At first, I found the equations a bit tricky, but later on I was getting better and better at it and I can now understand it easily.

This is a DLO that I have created to show my learning of Problem Solving. My learning intention was to find a fraction of an amount. I have showed how I worked out the equation in the simplest form

For Maths today, we have been learning to find a fraction of a number/amount. Before creating this DLO, I had to answer three other questions similar to the one above. We then chose a problem to create a DLO about. I have explained how I have worked out my equation.

Why maths is important?

This is a short movie that I collaborated with a few class mates. Our movie focusses on why maths is important Our movie is mainly based around money and change.

Jaffa Roll Experiment

This is the fotor I created based around the Jaffa Roll experiment we had done on Tuesday. We needed to create something out of cardboard, sellotape, scissors, and glue that would make the Jaffa we were given go as far as possible. Everyone had done something ramp like since it was the most effective choice. Our Jaffa had gone 816 centimetres. The longest had gone over 900 centimetres. We were happy with our score since compared to others was really good. Everyone had fun and had creative designs that turned cardboard into something cool. 

Problem Solving - 7 X Tables

This is a presentation I had to complete for my maths task. It includes different 7 X Table word problems that I had to solve. I showed the strategy I used and also added a poster at the end to show more of my thinking.

Today we had to practice our 7 times multiplication. This is a poster sharing my knowledge of 7 X tables. I wrote down different word problems that tie in with this multiplication task.

Problem Solving DLO

This is my strategy I used to solve a maths problem. Overall I think I chose a easy and fast strategy. My goal is to try and practice solving large subtraction equations by using algorithms, so it's easier/faster for me to solve.

XtraMath Results

Here are my results for Xtramaths. This week I think I did a great job scoring 90 next time I hope to get a score of 100 and move onto subtraction.
